We took on a new challenge here at Keepsake Portraits – ducks for spring portraits. This has been an easier challenge than I expected. Ducks provide a good bit of entertainment. They are quite clean and relatively quiet.
What they have been up to:
On Friday they made an appearance at my daughter’s first grade class. After much coaching on how to hold the duck each student was allowed to hold the ducks and even got a chance to herd them around on the floor. It was a fascinating experience. I also learned that when having pets, clean up usually falls to the the adults.
Growth update:
The ducks now preen themselves regularly. Later on in life, this will help them keep their feathers nice and tight as well as water proof. Right now they don’t have their adult plumage, but it is starting to show on their tail feathers. They have noticeably increased in size and most of them have names – given by my 7 year old daughter. I am not sure that she can actually tell them apart, but there are some subtle differences.
What I have learned:
They are not water proof yet. I learned this by reading – not by testing.
Seven year olds are excited by pets.
Seven year olds lose excitement about pets when it is time to clean up after the pets.
