Commercial Photography in Findlay

Being a food photographer on commercial photography projects in Findlay is different than the big city.  For one, you get to know the owners a lot more and it has been great to know We Serve. Coffee’s owners over the years.  It is a great privilege that I have to work with so many great individuals on so many projects.  Recently we were able to complete a photoshoot at Findlay’s newest coffee shop, We Serve. Coffee.

The unique twist on this coffee shop is that all the profits are donated to charity.  I am not going to reveal all of the images or the video here, but I just wanted to post a sneak peek.

Update:  Having posted this so many years ago now, it is amazing how much the community has come to love Jack and the staff there. I guess you can say I am a regular when they know my drink when I walk in.  We do a bunch of meetings there – not because we don’t have great space at our studio but we like the vibe.

The secret that isn’t well known is they now have a line of cheesecakes.  You can see them in the dessert case and if you ask you can order whole cheesecakes, but it is a secret menu of sorts right now.  Downtown Findlay is one of the great small towns in America.  Few stores are ever empty for long and new projects are constantly being announced.

So the question I get asked a lot about commercial photography is “do you get to eat the food?”  The answer is “it depends.”  It is very rare the food “on stage” is consumed as it is often propped up with various things like sponges and pins.  But there are often numerous “too ugly” foods that don’t make the cut.  Buns for sandwiches are hard.  About 1 in 10 or less make the cut.

The most food ever consumed from a shoot was with Heavenly  Pizza.  Nearly all that food was donated to local fire stations so we kept that food safe and unaltered.  But that story is for another day.
