We love doing senior pictures here at our studio and around Findlay, but for an adventure we took six of this year’s studio model representatives out on the town for some images.   We hopped a limo and off we went.  We not only enjoyed amazing weather, but some amazing pizza as well.

I am sure that boring senior pictures can be found elsewhere, but here at the studio or out on location we work to use the environment, your clothes, and your interests to make you look amazing….and you’ll have fun getting them done.

Our facebook page is one place to look for some seniors who have had some recent sessions. You can elect to have your images up on facebook after your order.

After all, there are very few photographs at any art museum and then it is usually a small traveling collection, so why would I take my family there?

Appreciation

I want my daughters to understand an appreciate a variety of art forms.  I want them to think outside of the world of photography.  Although our youngest is only 13 months, it is never to soon to start!  They need to see the history of the craft of art and how it has developed.  I want them to see the excitement on my face when I stand before a Renoir or one of my favorite portrait artists John Singer Sargent.

Education

There is much to be learned about lighting.  The great artists understood light.  I spend a great deal of my time in studying photography studying light.  Photography is using a camera to capture my light painting.  I want to see how the masters used light.  I study their choice of pose.  Considering that they often would work on a portrait for months, the decision to use a certain pose was a big decision.

Critic

Not all the art in the museum is great.  I observed a painting from the 1700′s that was an attempt at a realistic portrait of four people and the heads were a mess.  The were not symmetrical and the features were not well done.  This wasn’t a Picasso where you do well to even see that there IS a face in the painting, the artist didn’t get the job done.  I want, in time, for my daughters to understand what makes good art and what does not.

So what were the lessons?

There were two.  One was the creation of paintings with the use of dots or very short brush strokes.  The skill at which the artists maintained the consistency of these strokes is amazing. The second lesson focused on Renaissance art.  While observing a painting of the Jesus and the two thieves on the cross, I asked my daughter to look at the crowd and decide who the righteous ones were.  She correctly identified that it was the ones with the halo around their head.  The halo has been used in western art to signify the righteous ones, usually Jesus, Mary and the apostles.

We will return and we will visit other museums in other cities.  We never stop learning.

Each year we try to add more options for you to choose from for your Christmas cards.  This year we elected to take a modern twist on things. We can also use our snow scene as well as pine trees to create a wintery holiday look.  You can even head outside if the weather is cooperating.

Keep in mind…Christmas comes fast

Getting your session and getting the cards back will take 1-2 weeks and you will need a few days for the post office to get the cards out.

You need to give us a call to set up an appointment.  If you want to book a Christmas only quick session, there is no charge for the session.

There is never a wrong time to book your family session at Keepsake. Spring is a fun time with flowers blooming.  Summer opens up the whole world for us to use.  Fall has its unique color and winter has holidays where families are coming together.

How often should a professional portrait be taken?

• Children Ages 1-5: every year
• Children ages 5-18: every 2-3 years
• Families with all adults or adult aged children: every 3-5 years

If you have extended family, which likely involves children, you should have a family photos done every couple of years because the kids will change quite a bit and often new little ones are being added.

“How do I prepare?”

You just need to call us and we can help.  Remember, we do hundreds of sessions a year and can help you with ideas and give you ways to make it a very enjoyable experience for everyone.  Not everyone in the picture will be pumped about being here, but they will have fun by the time it is all over.

“Are you busy?”

Premium session times, which are our after 3:00 and Thursday evening sessions are in very high demand almost year round.  So calling ahead is a good idea. We also open for some special Saturdays and some special holiday times and those too go very very fast.

At Keepsake Portraits we believe that we are creating permanent treasures for your family.  The portraits that we create only get more valuable as time goes on.  Pictures are how we remember.

If you have a few minutes, take a look at the Kodak commercial below.  I think it is an exceptional peek into what pictures mean to our lives now and to future generations.

We have two new scenes to introduce. The first is called Bath Time.

The second scene is called Cereal Time.  Most kids gravitate toward Cheerios.  We wanted a way to capture that.  Our super spoon is the answer.  It really is that big. (Fun fact 1 out of every 9 boxes of cereal sold in the USA is a box of plain ole Cheerios.)

The main thing to remember when planning your session is to call us and let us advise you what scene that we have would work best for your child.  Not just those that are age appropriate, but are safe.  A child needs to be on the brink of crawling to do Cereal Time.

Do some of the images take on a similar quality?  Yes.  Especially when it comes to the part of the session for the traditional images.  But when we design your senior picture look, we constantly work to come up with a different look and expression that defines you.

For those of you who know, the sessions that we do, most of what is shown here on the website is unique either to the studio or our special location nearby.  The third image here is an exception. Although, I would love to have a window that big here at that studio, we did go to a location to get this image.  Location is an option that you can add for free to any session.
